A Friend isn’t Just for Christmas

Julie: We always thought it was funny to dress the same and pretend to the guys that we were sisters. We used to have great times together, we were always in each other’s homes.

Now it just seems that she is stalking me.  Since I’ve been going out with Brad I find her presence unsettling. I wish she would find someone special for herself and leave me alone.

Samantha: Julie always seems annoyed at me these days, I just don’t know what I’ve done.  That Brad is a right creep, she deserves someone better, and she just can’t see it.

Julie: Brad says that Samantha is just jealous and told me to ignore her.

Samantha: Since Julie has been with Brad, she never answers my texts or phone calls.  I miss her so much it hurts.

Julie: My life doesn’t seem the same anymore.  Since we got engaged Brad’s personality has changed from the fun loving guy I fell in love with.  Somehow, he seems to have alienated all my friends.   He says he just wants me for himself. He explains that he is envious of anyone else having my attention. It sounds so romantic, but I still miss having the family or a friend to confide in though.

Samantha: I keep on hearing from friends that Julie hardly ever goes out.  I am sure that there is something wrong. I just feel so helpless that there’s nothing I can do.

Julie: I found my mobile phone today in Brad’s jacket, funny that he didn’t say anything when I told him it was missing.  When I checked my messages, I find out that Brad has replied to them all.  I’ll have to confront him, he has no right to control my life like this.

Samantha: I get a call from the hospital, it’s Julie asking for a lift.  I drop everything and go.  When I get there, I hardly recognise her.  She had two black eyes and a broken jaw.  She asks if I’ll take her to her family’s home, and stay with her for a while.

Julie: “You really are a true friend,” I tell Samantha, “I’ve been a complete idiot.”  I feel safe in her company and try to tell her everything that has happened.

Samantha: After she has finished, I hug Julie gently, “I only ever wanted you to be happy,” I say.

Julie: I realise what a mess I’ve made of things and burst into tears, and I hug Samantha back, never wanting to lose her ever again.

Samantha: “Come on, let’s get married soon and face things together.”
