But then I was
talking to a mate, and he said have you
heard that we could have high waves. I said, ‘How high?’ ‘Oh about 120 foot in
the sea, but about 60 foot on land.’

I went back home, shocked to hear that we could be in trouble with a
wave surge. But not a little one, a big surge. They said it could be as high as
the Grape and Olive building in Swansea. ‘WOW! That big?’ I was thinking where can we go because it
would wipe out Swansea, and how soon. The weatherman said, “It’s coming in about three days.” The advice then given by the
news reporter was that if you see the tide go right out, do not
follow. It will come back faster
and more powerful.

People started to panic when the
wave was approaching. They started moving their
belongings. Quite a lot of people went to Kilvey Hill, right to the top.
When it arrived the prison was empty, all dead. We saw the wave from the hill.
It was massive. All of the centre of Swansea was wiped out, the Kingsway, all
the shops and pubs. Everything was being swept away across the city.

Looking down from the hill, seeing
all the water, it will take a lot of work to make Swansea city like it was, and for new houses to be
built so people can move in. We have to hope work will start, but where and when
I do not know.

I just started sobbing at how bad
it was. When they said it wouldn’t not happen to us, they were so wrong. And it
could happen again, but if it does then next time Swansea will be gone for good
. I do not want to think about that
possibility. I hope all people are doing enough to help stop it from happening
again. It is going to get worse across
the globe unless we all change what we do,
how we use the energy and resources. We must change so that there is not
global warming and then maybe it will be down to mother nature.

I was watching the news about the weather climate. It’s warming up and the ice is melting which is worrying. And seeing other places being flooded, I thought that it would never happen here.
