At the fag-end of a long night, all she wanted is to get this settled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOkay, Kev,\u201d she said to her DS, \u201clet\u2019s get this done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The officers strode into the room and sat across the table from Todd Greenwood, their prime suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kev flipped open a folder and looked Greenwood in the eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDo you understand why you\u2019re here?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTell me,\u201d Greenwood responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have not charged you with any crime,\u201d Kev said, \u201cyou\u2019re helping us with our inquiries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to,\u201d Greenwood said, \u201ccan I go?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Alice said, \u201cNo, and if you persist, I will charge you with suspicion of a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat crime?\u201d the duty solicitor intervened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are conducting a murder enquiry,\u201d Alice said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have murdered NO-ONE,\u201d Greenwood snapped, \u201cI was home with my wife.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA witness saw you leaving your home at one a.m. on the nights of the murders,\u201d said Kev, \u201ccan you explain your movements?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI needed to clear my head,\u201d Greenwood insisted, \u201cI was out five minutes. You can check my phone; it\u2019ll tell you where I was.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFollowing that information, we got a warrant to check your internet activity,\u201d Kev carried on, \u201cyou have been looking at the crime scene areas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProves nothing,\u201d said Greenwood, \u201cI\u2019m just looking at properties\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBit of a coincidence, Todd,\u201d interjected Alice, \u201cthree murders in two months and your search history shows you\u2019ve been looking at the areas where the crimes took place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIs that all you have, Inspector,\u201d said the solicitor, \u201cbecause if it is, we\u2019re done here. You can either charge Mister Greenwood or let him go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not quite everything,\u201d said Alice, \u201cyou mentioned your phone, naturally we checked, and it appears your phone WAS at your home address when the crimes were being committed\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She paused, \u201cBut it wasn\u2019t the only phone at your home. Your wife\u2019s phone was there, but there was a third signal arriving at one-fifteen in the morning and leaving at three-twenty-five. That phone belongs to Colin Greenwood, your younger brother.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat little bastard,\u201d Greenwood said, jumping to his feet, \u201cI knew he was poking the missus when I was out\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stopped and looked at the solicitor, who by now had his head in hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTodd Phillip Greenwood,\u201d said Alice with a smile, \u201cI am arresting you on suspicion of the murders of Iona Treen, Patty Williams and Lorrie Jones. You do not have to say anything, but anything\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jane and Colin Greenwood did not attend the trial. They were too busy setting up home in Cardiff where they hoped they would live happily ever after, and they did, at least until Todd escaped.
