She had been doing that a lot lately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steven,\nher husband of what seemed like five long years, shouted, \u201cGet a move on, I\nsaid we would be there at 11.30.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She sighed\nonce more before pulling on her well-worn boots, and checked her reflection\nbefore hurrying down the stairs.&nbsp; They\nset off across the park.&nbsp; No matter how\nlate they were Steven would never pay for a taxi or even get on a bus. She had\nthought in the past that his frugality was a good thing. Having lived with it\nshe now knew he was just a very mean person, and she had had to live by his\nrules. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>As the\npark was very crowded that morning, so she felt safe enough to ask him.&nbsp; She knew that he would never cause a scene at\nsuch a public space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSteve, I\nwant \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He cut her\noff before she could finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\nanswer is no to whatever it is that your asking.\u201d he stated \u201cand don\u2019t call me\nSteve in front of my father, you know how much he hates it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Almost as much as I hate him, she thought, but was very careful not to say it out loud.&nbsp; She wondered why she was going to a place that she was never made welcome, and had to put up with his overbearing father and a mouse of a mother-in-law.&nbsp; That thought stopped her in her tracks, as she thought of herself in the same role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStop\ndawdling, hurry up.\u201d&nbsp; Steven said as he\nstrode off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSteve,\nslow down!&nbsp; I want to talk to you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He turned\nabruptly with increasing annoyance showing on his face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want&#8230;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;I\nwant a divorce!\u201d there she had finally said it and found that it had not been\nas hard as she had imagined.&nbsp; A warm\nfeeling started in her body and her confidence grew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He didn\u2019t\nreply straight away as if he was thinking what she had said through. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDid I\nhear you right, you are actually asking me for a divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo\u201d she\nreplied, feeling much stronger, \u201cI\u2019m telling you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He looked\nvery confused, she had never stood up to him before.&nbsp; He didn\u2019t know quite what to say.&nbsp; Then noticing that time was passing, he\nhurried on to his parents house, knowing the wrath of his father was now a\ncertainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She called\nout once more, just to make sure he fully understood,\n\n\u201cand Steve, just one more\nthing, it will cost you!\u201d she turned and laughed to herself, and set off smiling\nin a direction to her mother\u2019s house, where she knew there would be a warm\nwelcoming and a complete understanding. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lucy, dressed in her best clothes looked at her reflection in the mirror.&nbsp; I look dowdy she thought.&nbsp; My mother wouldn\u2019t even wear these to clean the grate out, and would never wear them outside, even to do the gardening.&nbsp; She sighed heavily.
