Helen sat\ndown with a sigh. It was time to think of a new year\u2019s resolution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why do I\ndo this to myself? she pondered. Each year promising myself to do something\nuseful. My spare room is filled with things from years past. The cross stitch\nstill unopened, the exercise bike which I generally hang my ironing on. Shelves\nstacked with books I never get round to reading, exercise videos that maybe\nwere watched once, and I nearly put my back out with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Think I\nmust have tried every avenue to a healthy life. It cost me a fortune in\ngym membership, even personal trainers. They all fell by the wayside. Even\ntried volunteering with charities, every time finding out I couldn’t give them\nthe time required with my work schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Would\nreally like to do something out of my comfort zone, skydive, mountaineering, run\na marathon but can always find a reason not to do them. My mind\u2019s just\ngoing round in circles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Donating\nto charities sounds good. I do one at work for children in need. Where do you start?\nWe are bombarded with adverts from every angle. How do you choose any without\nfeeling guilty about the others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Helen\nsuddenly realised that if you worked to make your world a kinder place maybe\nthat was the best resolution you could make. No more agonising about things\nthat you haven’t done. At sixty years old you have done many things to help\npeople in the past and would continue to be as helpful as possible in the\nfuture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
