Scepticism had surrounded their beliefs about life beyond planet Earth, but when the knowledge of unfamiliar life forms became widespread several countries put their national guard on shoot-to-kill alert.

Some of the UFO scanners expressed pleasure at their discovery. From Greenland :

‘We saw a group of eight visitors who seemed to have blown to Earth. No vehicle visible. These little guys are about the size of a child’s space hopper – round, with skin like a very old mouse, sort of patchy grey hairs. Hands seem to work like a chameleon’s. Don’t know what world they came from or how they travel.’

The observations began to build. From Spain came the message:

‘Confirm sightings of small groups. 8-10. Seem to move by launching forwards and then bouncing along for a few metres.’

From Ghana a further posting:

‘Small group confronted by armed police. They stopped, and a noise – like a deep belly laugh- started deep inside them. They shook with their sound and soon the police started to laugh uncontrollably.’

In Australia, several reports came in, including the following:

‘We are calling the visitors Wibbles because of the laughing sound they make, even in the face of danger. We’d say that wibbling is the sensation of a deep belly laugh which cannot be suppressed. It rolls upwards until a great roar of laughter erupts. ’

Soon Wibbles were appearing in international TV news. One incident caught on camera happened in Mexico where armed troops had confronted a group of 9 Wibbles. The Wibbles began their deep laughing noise causing most of the guards to follow suit. Unfortunately a private citizen opened fire with a semi-automatic and shot 3 of the visitors who, literally, went up in a puff of dust.

It was a bad day for Wibble watchers, but spectacularly the remaining Wibbles turned towards the assassin and began their deep laughter. The shooter dropped his gun and staggered away, laughing from deep inside himself. What bravery, what sacrifice those Wibbles displayed.

Soon, too soon, all over world Wibbles were jumping off cliffs. They sailed down gently to land and wibbled with the sensation. They seemed to enjoy being close to hang gliders, windsurfers, any activity involving wind power, They must have been planning their move and could be seen catching gusts of wind and floating away on them. More and more were leaving Earth and no attempt to capture them for scientific investigation was successful.

Wibbles are free spirits: no planet, no spacecraft, no overheads. It is impossible to pin them down. Perhaps they are a missionary tribe, a single issue group who bring order, correct bellicose instincts standing in the way of peace and goodwill

It’s hard to explain the impact of a Wibble visitation except to say that it is an extraordinary privilege.

It was an international group of UFO watchers that first sighted the visitors to Earth.
